A wonderful anthology in the works is a new project, Wine and Cheese and Chocolate---a meal of literary food! We invite submissions of artistic and literary flash fiction, poetry, as well as elegant photographs, and art about these three culinary areas. So get out those wine tasting terms and have some fun. We would like to combine good literature and good food imagery. Deadline is Dec. 31, 2010, so get your work polished. A contest will award cash prizes and gift items in each area, along with publishing in the new anthology. Runners-up and honorable mentions will be published as well. Address queries to Linda Field, Events Coordinator, for more information, using the mrosemanza@jps.net email. Contest entry forms will be emailed to you upon request. See: Guidelines page.
Our purpose is to support a thriving literary community in our economically and culturally diverse area, networking with writing communities in our region to form a vibrant, publishing community of writers. We hold workshops, readings, critique group meetings, and as our press grows, we will publish books by emerging and seasoned writers of our foothill and Sierra region and beyond. We will continue publishing the popular Manzanita: Poetry and Prose of the Mother Lode and Sierra volumes for

The press cut its teeth on its first book in 2008, by publishing a collection of essays and poems by author Glenn Wasson, titled Tales Mark Twain Would Have Loved To Steal, which was a success in our region, mainly due to Glenn's witty style and content. Glenn's book has just won a major humor award as a notable book and is now being looked at by several agents across the U.S. We are planning on publishing more authors and invite people to become involved with our collaborative press.
We have closed Manzanita Volume 6 submissions. Volume 7 submissions will open in the fall of 2010.
The Volume 6 publication release will be August 14, 2010, at the Leger Hotel in lovely Mokelumne Hill in Calaveras County. 11 AM to 6 PM. Writers published in Manzanita will be reading their selection from the new book, and the public will be reading work at open mic. You are invited to come join us for a day-long celebration, reading, and book-signing party! If you are one of the writers in the publication, email mrosemanza@jps.net to sign up for a time slot. SEE EVENTS.
In addition to the ongoing reading, Jim Lanier will be entertaining us with his acoustic guitar. Vendors, such as Mokelumne Nut Company and a couple of wineries will provide samples for tasting. Artists and photographers will have artwork and photographs featured in the book on view. It's a great time to buy a signed print by these talented artists and photographers. Featured Cover photographers are Paul Neal and Ty Childress.
We will have an open mic time for people who sign up at the event. The event is free. Refreshments, too. There will be scheduled writers every hour. Come to the Leger Hotel and join in the public celebration and reading by authors featured in the new book, and get your book signed by your favorite writer, artist, or photographer. This perfect-bound, glossy color-covered book with 200-plus pages features over 100 authors and poets, as well as 30 photographers and artists, will be an aesthetic addition to your coffee table. We will be featuring many Calaveras County artists in full color in this edition, still keeping the price down to 15.00, thanks to a grant from the Calaveras County Arts Council who has supported this literary publication since 1984! Kudos to CCAC for supporting our arts!
Local and regional sponsors support the publications and our press with generous sponsorships, grants, and ads.
